ITOL Accredited On-site Immediate Life Support Course

The most exciting and stimulating ILS course you will ever attend

Our Training Approach

We aim to provide a comprehensive course that will enable  staff members to gain both confidence and competence when dealing with medical emergencies in the workplace.

The course is unique as we promote high-fidelity training to enable delegates to experience as close to real medical emergencies as is possible.

During the training  we complete the ABCDE approach on real people. We use choking simulators to allow delegates to practice abdominal thrusts. We  practice taking real time observations, respirator rate, Sp02, pulse rates, BP and CRT, blood-glucose testing and if required give training oxygen and drugs to the casualty.

During the resuscitation module we give clear and concise training on recognizing and dealing with airway complications,  agonal breathing and recognizing cardiorespiratory arrest using a real person.

The scenario training brings together all aspects of the course in real time emergencies that are set around your working environment, whether it be in or out or hospital. The instructor acts as the sick patient and delegates are tasked to take immediate action to prevent a cardiac arrest or manage one.

Following the course all delegates will have a years unlimited access to an interactive online ILS course and you will be given a mini anne manikin so you can practice your basic life support skills throughout the year. We know from our research that skills can depreciate from as little as two months following  training so this is a valuable tool to enable ongoing retention of skills and knowledge.

Who should attend the course and what will they learn?

This ITOL accredited intermediate life support course is designed for all health-care professionals who may be involved in the resuscitation of patients/clients before advanced life support arrives.

Delegates will learn how to recognise a sick patient and the immediate action to be taken in the event of a cardiorespiratory arrest.  This will involve carrying out basic life support, airway management and safe defibrillation (manual and/or AED).

Course aim

To enable a universal response to the initial management of a patient in cardiorespiratory arrest prior to the arrival of advanced life support.

The course will cover the following subjects:

  • Recognizing the sick patient and preventing cardiac arrest

  • Basic life support theory and practice

  • Basic understanding of the heart and conduction system

  • Basic cardiac arrhythmias

  • Safe defibrillation

  • The ALS universal algorithm

  • Basic cardiac arrest rhythms

  • Basic airway management

  • Monitoring the patient

  • Emergency drugs and their delivery

  • Casualty teaching

Assessment

The course is based on continual assessment. Where a delegate fails to meet the required standard additional tuition will be provided.  If after additional tuition, the candidate fails to obtain the required standards, the following will apply:

  •                  A reassessment will take place at a location agreed between the delegate and the instructor.

  •                 The candidate will be asked to repeat the course at their or the employers expense.

Delivery and Quality

All elements of the course are  Nationally Accredited with the Institute of Training and Occupational Learning (ITOL) and have been verified for their educational content.

All our instructors are qualified to a minimum standard as RC(UK) Advanced Life Support Instructors, and some are also European Resuscitation Council Advanced Life Support Instructors and Generic Instructor Course Instructors.

Each course member will have access to a Medical Emergencies online training resource which allows them to refresh their knowledge throughout the year. This is included in the course fees.
