NSPPC Child Protection Awareness in Health

This course is written by the NSPCC and is suitable for any health care professionals who come in to contact with children as part of their work. The course consists of four concise learning modules, each with an accompanying questionnaire, and aims to give you a better understanding of child abuse and your role and responsibilities in safeguarding children.

Module one - Understanding the Basics

By the end of the module you will be able to:

Identify the types of abuse and the effects it can have on a child's life

Discuss the issues regarding child abuse and managing your own feelings

Module two - Recognising Child Abuse

By the end of the module you will be able to:

Identify possible signs of the different types of abuse (physical, sexual, emotional neglect)

Discuss how you may respond if a child confides in you and what you should do if you suspect a child is being maltreated

Module three - Reporting Child Abuse

By the end of the module you will be able to:

Understand the importance of taking action and how you may undertake this using a step by step approach

Explain how you may share your concerns with parents

Module four - Working Together

By the end of the module you will be able to:

Describe the legal frame work, key definitions and your duties regarding child abuse

Discuss the prevention of allegations against staff and your role regarding confidentiality

After successful completion of each questionnaire there is confirmation of the correct answers to reinforce participants knowledge.

Following successful completion of the programme you will be awarded a personalised NSPCC certificate to evidence learning
